Boddington Ale

SCORE: 4.70REVIEWED BY: Lakeffect

COMMENTS: Boddingtons is a magical substance that reverses a Beer Commandment we’ve always believed deep down into our soul: foam is a bad thing. In a tall glass of Boddingtons, foam is a delicious elixir -- creamy, smooth and delicious. It gives your mouth and tongue the pleasure they get from the tannish-white crema that caps a fresh, hot espresso. Until I quaffed my first Boddingtons, foam was pond scum, a wasteful, distasteful byproduct not to be slurped and never to be enjoyed. But Boddington foam is so delicious that, when purchased in tall cans from the liquor store, each container has a tiny gas cannister that will emit this heavenly foam like magic.
Another counterintuitive feature of Boddingtons is the speed with which the foam recedes down the side of your glass. We all know how a jittery keg of beer gushes out foam that continues to fill up the glass. When you order a draught of Boddingtons at your favorite tavern, the sweet foam will fill the glass. But in a matter of seconds, the stack of foam shrinks to the perfect sized head on a delicious beer.
This beer doesn't act like normal beer, nor does it really taste like it. Boddington's is smoother and less bitter than other brews. It slides down the throat like nothing else.

COMMENTS: Pours a hazy creamy golden yellow color. Aromas of malts, honey like qualities, and a touch of hops. Flavor is creamy, sweet malt and aftertaste.
